SSAA Warwick: Building for the Future (The Report August 2026)
By Sam Talbot
SSAA Warwick members have been hard at work in recent months, with volunteers coming together to complete a major upgrade of the branch’s clubhouse kitchen as part of ongoing improvements at the Rose City club.
The project began with a well-attended working bee in April, where members removed the old kitchen, installed new wall linings and prepared the space for tiling. Special shout out goes to member Leon King who also later donated additional time and expertise to complete the tiling work, helping bring the revamped kitchen closer to completion.
Other club members, including Graham Mottram, Peter Wright, Steve O’Callaghan, Kym Barber and Andrew Barber, joined President Jo Sciuto and Secretary Marilyn Kelly in the working bee effort, contributing their time, skills and equipment to the project.
The upgraded kitchen forms part of a broader series of improvements underway at the branch, which continues to invest heavily in facilities for members and visitors alike.
Located on a spacious rural property, SSAA Warwick caters for a wide variety of shooting activities and regularly attracts visitors from across South East Queensland, including Brisbane and Toowoomba. The complex features 50m, 100m and 200m ranges and supports disciplines including Field Rifle and pistol shooting.
The branch has about 500 members, including around 200 annual range pass holders, and continues to encourage participation from shooters of all ages. One of the club’s recent stand out competitions was the newly introduced Inaugural Air Rifle Field Target competition. Despite a typical Warwick breeze making conditions a little tricky, the event was a success.
Warwick also hosts several popular events throughout the year, including Trophy Shoots, Junior Air Rifle competitions and open club events that bring together members from across the region. Another highlight from the club is their mobile shooting benches, which are quite innovative, space-saving and flexible, allowing the space to be adapted to what is needed. The club has also purchased a new clay thrower to guarantee all safety standards are met.
Beyond the firing line, the branch has invested heavily in making the site more comfortable and functional. Facilities include a clubhouse with storage areas, the newly upgraded kitchen, shaded seating areas, showers, toilets and three accommodation dongas for overnight stays. A new 10 x 10 equipment shed has also recently been added, while upgraded lighting and new bunkers are nearing completion.
Importantly, the range is also home to a wildlife sanctuary area, reflecting the branch’s connection to the local environment.
Looking ahead, SSAA Warwick has no plans to slow down – in fact they look like they are speeding up. Future works are expected to include disability toilet upgrades and the development of camping areas to further improve the experience for travelling members and competitors.
With dedicated volunteers, improving facilities and an active calendar of events, SSAA Warwick continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the most welcoming and progressive shooting clubs going around.
