Permits to acquire assessment unchanged

 

Further to Weapons Licensing Group (WLG) announcing that it is reviewing the current process of genuine reason licence endorsement, it has added high calibre, high velocity and high impact firearms to its internal evaluation.

The Director of WLG has requested that we inform members that current permits to acquire continue to be assessed based on the category of firearm and the genuine need for the firearm being applied for.

“At this stage, there are no changes to existing processes undertaken by Weapons Licensing Group in the processing of Permit to Acquire applications. All applications continue to be assessed based on the category of weapon and the genuine need for the firearm being applied for,” Mr Rhimes said.

“Currently, the Weapons Licensing Group are in the process of undertaking a number of internal reviews to improve and strengthen our business processing activities and operations – this includes the review of current processes and genuine need to acquire and possess high powered firearms as well as other identified focus risk areas.”

SSAA Queensland will continue to liaise with Queensland Police on all firearm licensing and firearm ownership matters and report back to its members.
