July President’s Message

Moving forward for our members

Another month into our journey advancing our self-management of our state Association, the process has been remarkably smooth. The future of SSAA Queensland and our 80,000 members has never been stronger, while still remaining a member of SSAA Inc.

Since starting our membership processing, we have sought out the most advanced and secure database system to protect the security and privacy of our members. This software has been adopted and continues to be run by our outstanding membership team in Ipswich.

You may already be aware, but in January 2024, SSAA Queensland introduced Deporte Mutual Firearms Protection, meaning Queensland members can get up to $25,000 of firearms protection for just $35. Of course, members also have public liability coverage across the country. Essentially, this means we have control over the funds used for the coverage – a good fair deal for members.

The Report magazine is something we are immensely proud of. It’s been a hot topic recently, and for good reason; it’s a great magazine! We are delighted to be able to focus on Queensland stories and issues, even though much of The Report has national appeal. In fact, we are consistently getting interest from other states about it.

With an agile, experienced and focussed media team, we have been able to make The Report cost-effective, while strengthening our other media assets. The ssaaqld.org.au website continues to grow and we’re setting our sights on other digital projects such as revamping more websites, as well as expanding our media reach for the benefit of the shooting sports and most importantly all of our Queensland members.

Recently though, some of our motives have been called into question. To address these and ensure no stone is left unturned, we’ve compiled a Q and A piece to explain the decisions made by the conference and committee during the past few years. Basically, we can do more for our members by providing certain services in-house rather than sending your money interstate. Take a look at the Q and A here.

On the actual shooting front, state and national championships are in full swing. Congratulations to everyone who has competed or has a competition coming up. There’s a lot to be proud of and look forward to at SSAA Queensland.

Safe Shooting.
