SSAA Eidsvold (The Report December 2025)
About 430 kilometres north of Brisbane, you’ll find the rural town of Eidsvold, which likes to say offers ‘country living at its best’. Two weekends each month the SSAA Eidsvold Branch (Q36) opens its doors to local sporting shooters. The Eidsvold shooting range was first developed more than 100 years ago and was an ex-military and civilian range until about 1987, which was when it entered the SSAA fold.
The Branch has a heavy focus on Combined Services Discipline (CSD) events, both pistol and rifle, but its 145 members also enjoy taking part in shotgun, lever action and hunting rifle and rimfire events. In that mix are 40 female shooters and four juniors. Considering the town has a population of less than 600, branch membership is impressive.
Shooting programs are bimonthly, with the first Saturday morning of the month open for any locals and again on the third weekend of the month, with events starting on Friday afternoon and finishing midday Sunday.
The Branch is not lacking in features, boasting a well-equipped camp kitchen, spacious office and training area, large target storage space, disabled access to toilets and hot showers and plenty of convenient parking. And many stories and meals have been shared in the large camping area, providing visitors with close access to potable water, shady trees and a secured open fireplace.
The 60-hectare range has recently hosted the state muzzleloading championships and has previously held the state and national CSD championships. It has also been home to state Lever Action, Rendezvous and Canon championships.
The Branch is hoping to host the 2027 state CSD championships and the state Muzzleloading championships in 2026. If you plan to attend either event, you’ll be pleased to know the township has an awesome pub with great food, cold beer and newly renovated accommodation. When not at the range or hotel, take advantage of the town’s pool, golf course, large shopping centre and caravan park. And if you need another reason to visit, Eidsvold is the self-proclaimed ‘Beef Capital of the Burnett’ – so expect good food along with lively shooting competitions and great hospitality.
