August President’s Message

As I approach 12 months as President of SSAA Queensland, I would like to reflect on what has been a rewarding and interesting first year. Highlights have included visiting branches and meeting members and volunteers across Queensland. Seeing firsthand the work taking place at branch level has given me a much greater understanding of the challenges we face and the opportunities ahead.

Every branch is different, with its own priorities and needs, but all share the goal of providing safe, enjoyable and sustainable shooting opportunities for our members. I believe listening to our branches is an important part of the President’s role, and I look forward to visiting many more ranges throughout the coming year.

Another important responsibility as President has been attending meetings with ministers and government representatives. These discussions provide valuable opportunities to present the views and concerns of SSAA Queensland and advocate for our members and our sport. It is essential that we maintain a strong and constructive voice with decision-makers to ensure the contribution of recreational shooting is properly understood.

Throughout the year, the SSAA Queensland Executive has continued to work hard for our members and the Association. Much of what our members see is the result of considerable work behind the scenes by the Executive, staff and committees.

Above all, however, our achievements would not be possible without our countless volunteers. From running competitions and maintaining ranges to organising events, assisting members and serving on committees, volunteers are the backbone of SSAA Queensland. Much of their work is carried out quietly and without recognition, but it makes an enormous difference to our members and the future of our sport. I cannot thank them enough for their time, effort and commitment.

Looking ahead, we will continue supporting our branches, improving our facilities, increasing participation and ensuring SSAA Queensland remains a strong and respected organisation. There will undoubtedly be challenges, but with the continued support of our Executive, staff, branches, volunteers and members, I am confident we can keep moving forward.

It has been a privilege to serve as President during the past year. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and the Association. I look forward to meeting many more of you and continuing to build a strong future for SSAA Queensland.
