Air Rifle State Championship in Tin Can Bay

In exciting news for sportsmen and women of the region, some of the best air rifle shooters in Australia will be in Tin Can Bay from Friday 22 March until Sunday 24 March 2024.

They will be competing for medals in their respective grades at the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) Queensland Air Rifle Championships in Tin Can Bay.

It is expected that more than forty people will register to compete including a high percentage of females and disabled shooters.

This event occurs annually and moves to various venues across Queensland and spokesperson for the club Brett Whiting said they are fortunate to have it in Tin Can Bay this year.

On Friday the shooters will compete in the ten-metre precision event, Saturday will be the field target while Sunday will be the metallic silhouette.

Presentation of the medals will follow the Sunday event with Tony Perrett invited on Saturday to officially welcome shooters and open the event.

Brett said activities will commence at 9am each day and visitors and spectators are most welcome to attend.

“Visitors are requested to wear covered shoes and sign the attendance register when they arrive and leave for safety and compliance reasons.”

“Complimentary tea and coffee will be available, soft drinks can be purchased and there are onsite toilets if required.”

This State Championship will be followed in September by a National Competition at the range with shooters at this event competing for places on the Australian International Team.

“We would love to see you at the range 22-24 March!”

The SSAA is located at the end of Rifle Fish Rd just past the golf club as you leave town and opposite the horse yards.
