Call to Action
Update on the Bondi Terrorist Attack and Proposed Firearms Changes
SSAA Queensland recognizes that the festive period is a busy time and that members deserve a well-earned break. However, if you are able, we encourage you to contact your representatives and make your views known.
Firearms laws are state laws, and state laws are made by state politicians. SSAA Queensland is fighting, and will continue to fight, for shooters in Queensland.
If your local member has publicly opposed additional firearms legislation, let them know you agree with them. A brief email or phone call thanking them for representing your views makes a difference and helps reinforce their position.
If your local member has not stated their position, or has supported further restrictions, contact them and make your position clear. Explain that you oppose any additional laws targeting law-abiding firearms owners and that you will not support them if such laws are imposed.
We do not recommend using form letters or templates. In our experience, templated messages are often treated as spam and disregarded. A short, personal message, even just a sentence or two, carries far more weight. A phone call is the most effective method.
Please continue contacting your local representatives and make your voice heard. A full list of Queensland parliamentarians and their contact details is available here:

Here are some ideas about what you could say:
- Queensland firearms laws are already adequate.
- All firearms are already subject to police approval.
- Licensed firearms owners already meet strict eligibility and compliance requirements.
- Knee-jerk or reactionary legislation is worse than sensible, research-backed lawmaking.
- There is no evidence that further legislative change would improve public safety in this instance.
- Law-abiding firearms owners are already subject to significant regulation.
- Additional laws would not have prevented incidents such as Bondi.
