Rational Observation in the News
Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp newspapers, like The Courier Mail, are notoriously anti-gun in philosophy, but occasionally a rational observation breaks through, like cartoonist Warren Brown’s offering. It depicts Prime Minister Anthony Albanese showing a farmer with a rifle, which he explains is ‘the problem’ while an extremist Islamic hate preacher looms large over them.
The cartoon is making comment on the Bondi terrorist attack by Islamic extremists on the Australian Jewish community and published on the eve of the Federal Parliament vote on the Combating Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill, which rolls firearm and hate speech law changes together.
